Summer Picnic Fun - Hubbards

So last weekend we drove out to Hubbards for Tanya's Run for the Cure Family Fun Picnic. What a great spot to have it - lots of field, a playground, access to the Hall for bathroom (no port-a-potties, yeah!). There weren't a lot of people there, but everyone who came out had a fabulous time playing games, face painting, bidding on auction items, and eating hotdogs, burgers, sausages and of course, the special summer staple, cotton candy!

Heather Brenton's gorgeous children were very good about having pictures taken during the event, and she agreed that I could post some of those images here to share with you. So a special thank you to Heather, Cadence & Lucas for being good sports about the crazy lady with the camera.

The weather couldn't have been better, as the sun was shining and the breeze was strong enough to keep most of the bugs off. However, one poor little ladybug got her legs tangled up in Cadence's cotton candy, and once we got her unstuck she decided to hang out with the bucket and shovel for a bit.
That gave me a chance to play with some of the macro settings on my camera to pretty good effect. I've never really thought about ladybugs as a photo subject because they are so small, but this opportunity really changed my mind about that. I love how you can even see the tiny little feet on Miss LadyBug, as she ambles down the shovel.

Overall, for everyone who attended the event, the day was a huge success. The games were fun, the kids loved the prizes, and there were lots of opportunities to play, have fun, and take pictures! Another great photo day in HRM, on to new adventures next weekend.

Old ships and old cars

What a weekend in Halifax Regional Municipality. There were literally photo opportunities on every corner. TallShips, Pirates, antique cars, a Jazz festival, a Kiss Concert and more. The city was bursting at the seams with things to see and do.

I actually didn't do a lot of photos at the Tall Ships Festival this year - I couldn't get there at the time that I wanted to, and when I was there nothing really caught my eye. I did grab a few shots, but nothing terribly spectacular. Sometimes I think that even though I've moved to the digital media, I still take pictures like it's 35 mm and I have to conserve the film, LOL.

So I took a few pictures here and there, but nothing like the images I got at the Tall Ships festival in 2000. Those are still my favorite shots I have taken of the big boats with rigging and sails. Very romantic ships, all round.

The waterfront teemed with people, and as an added attraction this year they had people dressed up as pirates acting out little scenes here and there. They also had groups of re-inactors living life as if it was 1749 or so all over the waterfront. Many muskets and much cannon fire. And fireworks each evening, which I managed to miss each time.

What really caught my eye on the weekend were the cars at the Annual Quinpool Car Show. I regret not making it out for the Friday night cruise to Point Pleasant Park, because it must have been something to watch the cars rolling down Quinpool Rd. and heading for the park.

This beautiful baby blue chevy really gleamed in the sunlight. I wish I had taken a few more shots of it, but the ones I got were beauty.

Well, till next time, keep your eye open for photo opportunities. I know I will.
